There just simply is too much information and pictures from these 4 days to pack them all into one post. Day 2 we got up at the butt-crack of dawn to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat that never actually came. It was a fun experience though walking through the pitch black darkness over the ruins to get a good seat by the pool in front of the wat. We went back to the hotel for breakfast and then met Mr. Loy afterwards to head to Angkor Thom. This place= huge. The first stop is at the gate that represents the "churning of the sea of milk." It's quite an impressive approach as there are Devas on both sides of the lane pulling on the serpant to church the sea. The gate is in the Bantay style that has 4 faces on each side of the statue. Sarah and I posed as the Devas for fun.
Our next stop was Bayon temple.
This place was unique for the carvings all over it depicting history and daily life. Another great thing is that you can just climb everywhere all over it! Behind this temple was a complex of palaces and more temples. These people like their massive monuments! Wow! Our last stop in this area was a walk through hell. Mr. Loy was describing this serpant creature called a naga who has dedicated itself to protecting one of the gods.
Interesting to learn about the history and how it ties into the culture. That afternoon we went on a hot-air balloon ride to see Angkor Wat from up above.
Then we went to a silk farm
and saw the silk making process from the silk worms to the gift shop! Our last day in Cambodia we went to the Tonle Sap lake which is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia.
They got to see what life on the water is like for many people that live in the floating villages here. That was fun and unique almost. It was so remote I felt, you couldn't see anything beyond the banks of the river. We past by schools, home, restaurants, grocery stores and tons and tons of fisherman. Back on dry ground we went to lunch across the street from the National Museum and while Marti, Mom and I spent the afternoon there, Dad Sarah and Jim went to see the Roulous group ( a group of temples, not a band)! It started raining when they got back, so we went to dinner at the Red Piano while we waited to catch our flight back to Thailand. And that sums up the trip to Cambodia!
